Welcome to Philip Marc Sons of Liberty. I specialize in hand painted signs which recreate iconic symbols that appeared prior to and during the American Revolution. There are many historic images that appeared during this period, instrumental to the formation of our country, that have been lost throughout time. I believe that Americans should know the meaning behind some of these images which helped to spark the birth of this great nation. My objective is to reintroduce some of these meaningful symbols as a way to educate and celebrate our national freedom!
Construction
I utilize seven inch tongue and groove Southern Georgia Heart Pine floor boards as the base for each image which are glued together and braced to ensure stability. Each item is finished with a rustic 2.5 inch pine board picture frame and bullnose trim on the inside to ensure a clean appearance to the surrounding border. Each piece is distressed to simulate age. You will find find worm holes, ax markings, dents, cracked paint, and musket ball holes. Musket ball holes are simulated with a hammer and chisel to create a splintered effect to the wood. Each piece is designed to appear as if it adorned the wall of a patriot’s home during the war and, at some point in time, was very close to a British skirmish. Some signs do have actual lead musket balls embedded in them to add to the authenticity.
